Stress oriented hydrogen induced cracking test is an evaluation of cracking sensitivity of carbon steel in aqueous solution of hydrogen sulfide. In accordance with the TM0103 SOHIC standard implementation of the NACE experiment is more stringent than the SSC test of the anti corrosion evaluation method.
When the carbon steel plate used in the welding pressure vessel is working under wet hydrogen sulfide environment, it may suffer from one or more forms of environmental cracking.
These cracking include:
(1) sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSC) in high hardness weld and heat affected zone;
(2) hydrogen cracking (HIC) of base metal;
(3) stress oriented hydrogen induced cracking (SOHIC)
