Pressure vessel steel is widely used in petroleum, chemical industry, power plant, boiler, for the production of reactor, heat exchanger, separator, tank, oil tank, liquefied gas tank and nuclear reactor pressure vessel, boiler, liquefied petroleum gas bottle, hydropower station high pressure pipes, turbine volute equipment and components.
1.1 this standard applies to welding boilers and other pressure vessels -- Manganese molybdenum and manganese molybdenum nickel alloy steel plates.
1.2 the steel plates in this standard have the following four different strength levels:

1.3 the maximum thickness of the steel plate is subject to the limit of the mechanical properties required by the chemical composition. The minimum thickness of the steel plate is limited to 0.25in (6.5mm).
1.4 values in inches, pounds, units, or units of SI shall be considered as standard values. In this standard text, the SI units are shown in parentheses. The value represented by each system is not exactly equal. Because of this, each unit must be used separately. Mixing two units will result in inconsistency with this standard.
General requirements for steel plates used in 2.1 ASTM standard A20/A20M pressure vessels
3.1 materials supplied according to this standard shall meet the requirements of the A20/A20M standard. These requirements include test and retest methods and procedures, tolerances for size and weight, quality and defects, finishing, marking, shipment, etc..
3.2 the A20 and A20M standards also specify the order rules to be used when ordering materials of this standard.
3.3 in addition to the basic requirements of this standard, certain supplementary requirements may be applied when required to be controlled, tested or tested to meet the final use requirements.
3.4 the purchaser shall refer to the standard set of requirements and A20/A20M standard in detail requirements.
3.5 if the requirements of the A20/A20M standards are inconsistent with this standard, the requirements of this standard shall prevail.

When the thickness of 4in (100mm) steel by normalizing, quenching liquid or blast method can be used to achieve accelerated cooling, and the smaller thickness steel plate produced by normalizing similar mechanical properties. If the purchaser agrees, as long as the steel plate is subsequently tempered at a temperature range of 1100 - 1300 (595 - 705 DEG C), steel plates with a thickness of less than 4in. (100mm) shall be allowed to use a faster cooling rate than in air to improve toughness.
